Sex-Linked Lethal Mutations Induced by Thermal Neutrons in Male and Female Drosophila Melanogaster.
نویسندگان
چکیده
HE experiments to be described are concerned with a comparative study of T the mutagenic effectiveness of thermal neutrons in producing sex-linked lethal mutations in male and female Drosophila melanogaster. Some of this work has appeared previously in abstract form (KING 1952a). Preliminary comparative studies of the mutagenic effectiveness of X-rays in producing sex-linked lethal mutations in male and female Drosophila have already been described (KING 1952b). The most extensive study to date on cytogenetic changes accompanying thermal neutron treatment is that of CONGER and GILES (1950) working with Tradescantia.

Concentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)
Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...

Background: In this study, the toxicity of the different xenobiotics was tested on the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster model system. Methods: Fly larvae were raised on food supplemented with xenobioticsat different concentrations (sodium nitroprusside (0.1-1.5 mM), S-nitrosoglutathione (0.5-4 mM), and potassium ferrocyanide (1 mM)). Emergence of flies, food intake by larvae, and pupation h...
متن کاملVital Genes That Flank Sex-Lethal, an X-Linked Sex-Determining Gene of DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER.
The X-chromosome:autosome balance in D. melanogaster appears to control both sex determination and dosage compensation through effects on a maternally influenced sex-linked gene called Sex-lethal (Sxl; 1-19.2). To facilitate molecular and genetic analysis of Sxl, we attempted to determine the locations of all ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS)-mutable genes vital to both sexes in the region between 6...
متن کاملSpontaneous Mutation Rates for Sex-Linked Lethals in the Two Sexes of DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER.
HE spontaneous mutation rates for autosomal lethals (both second and third chromosomes) in both male and female Drosophila melanogaster were reported in an earlier study (WALLACE 1968). Nearly 12.000 gametes obtained from lethal-free individuals were tested; the proportion of lethal-bearing ones was approximately 0.006 for either autosome and for either sex. The finding that the mutation rates ...
متن کاملMale-Specific Lethal Mutations of DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER . II. Parameters of Gene Action during Male Development.
The male-specific lethal mutations (msl's) identify loci whose wild-type gene products are essential for male, but not female, viability. Earlier studies in which X-linked gene activities were monitored in msl/msl male larvae demonstrated that these genes are responsible for setting and/or maintaining the level of X chromosome transcription in males (i.e., they are necessary for proper dosage c...
